For living and livelihood interventions data collection analysis and interpretation is essential. We would like to empower community with capabilities for building a community database system.
Information: Conveyed or represented by a particular arrangement or sequence of things (data). At community level there should be capabilities for data interpretation and generation of information out of the data, which has meaning and local relevance. We endeavour to enhance the skills of people in generating and maintaining data and information.
Knowledge: Awareness or familiarity gained by experience of a fact or situation. People need to be capacitated to value their traditional knowledge as well as search for knowledge which is else ware. collect, compile, co-opt and collaborate to apply the knowledge for skill development.
Skill: Ability to do something well as an expert to do a particular task. We agree that the present education system lacks the wherewithal to give skills to the learners. More is the lack of interest in acquiring traditional skills by way of practicing traditional skills. Acquiring and applying latest technological skills (ICTs, Biotech, etc) is eluding too.
Wisdom: Quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment and the ability to discern or judge what is true, right, or lasting. Where is our wisdom: the collective community wisdom to protect not only the physical environment but also the intellectual environment? We need to make the society gain back the same. OSM will strive towards enabling the community in gaining wisdom.
